Part 3 (Discussion) Topic: Advice

Part 1 – Introduction & Interview (Topic: Transportation)

What’s the most common form of transportation in your city?
Buses and cars are the most common. Many people also use motorcycles for short distances.

How do you usually travel to work or school?
I usually take the bus because it’s affordable and convenient.

Is it easy to get around your city?
Not always. Sometimes the traffic is really bad, especially during rush hours.

How can public transport be improved in your city?
I think the buses could be more frequent and better maintained, and there should be more routes to different areas.

Part 2 – Cue Card

Describe a piece of advice you received. You should say:

  • who gave you the advice
  • what the advice was about
  • how it helped you
  • and explain how you felt about this advice.

One piece of advice I received was from my uncle. A few years ago, I was really stressed about choosing a career path after university.

He told me not to rush into any job just for money, but to think carefully about what makes me happy and what I’m good at. He said it’s better to choose something you enjoy because you’ll spend many years doing it.

This advice really helped me when I was applying for jobs. I focused on finding a role that suited my skills and interests, not just the salary. Now I feel more satisfied with my work because I actually like what I do.

I’m really grateful for this advice because it guided me at an important stage in my life. It taught me to value my happiness and passions over money alone.

Part 3 (Discussion) Topic: Advice

Is it better to get advice from family or friends?
It depends. Family often knows us well and wants the best for us, but friends might give more practical or honest advice sometimes.

What qualities should a good advisor have?
A good advisor should be patient, a good listener, and someone who understands the situation without judging.

Do young people today rely too much on the advice of others?
Not always. Some young people do listen too much, but many like to make their own decisions and learn from their mistakes.
