Part 2 (Long Turn / Cue Card)
Describe something you did that was difficult but successful. You should say:
– What you did.
– Why it was difficult.
– How you did it.
– And explain how you felt about it.
One thing I did that was difficult but turned out to be successful was learning to drive and getting my
driving licence. I started learning two years ago because I needed to travel to my university, and
public transport wasn’t very convenient. At first, it was really challenging for me because I was afraid
of driving in heavy traffic and worried about making mistakes.
I remember during my first few lessons, I was so nervous that I kept stalling the car or forgetting to
check my mirrors. It was frustrating because I felt like I wasn’t improving at all. But I didn’t give up. I
booked extra lessons with my instructor, who was very patient with me. I also asked my father to
practise with me every weekend. Sometimes, we’d drive around quiet streets in the early morning so
I could build my confidence.
Another thing that made it difficult was balancing my driving lessons with my studies and part-time
job. I often felt exhausted, but I knew it was worth it. I even watched driving videos online to learn
tips for the test. After about four months of practice, I finally took the driving test. I was really
nervous on the test day, but I stayed calm and focused on what I had learned.
When I passed and got my licence, I felt so proud of myself because I overcame my fear and achieved
something I thought I couldn’t do. Now, driving has made my life so much easier. I feel more
independent and confident, and this experience taught me that with patience and effort, I can
succeed at anything.
